There was an incident during landing gear operation of a truck trailer on a marine terminal in Turkey.

The driver put his hand on the lower part of landing gear to control it’s movement to the downward but when he releases the pin of the landing gear, his little finger was squeezed and amputated on the 3rd knuckle.
The driver was taken to the infirmary and after first aid, he was taken to the hospital. Amputated part of the finger was sutured after a professional plastic surgery operation.

Risk assessment for trailer operation should be reviewed and if this risk is not defined, it should be included.

Landing gear of truck and terminal tractor trailers should be converted to gearwheel and crank type or installed a safety spring to prevent falling rapidly to downwards. On the other hand, a special guard plate should be manufactured and fitted to the bottom of the legs to prevent putting hand and finger on the bottom of the legs.

Drivers should be trained about landing gear operation hazards.
